Gift of Freedom
Freedom, what a wonderful word. It is probably one of the most valued and yet
most misunderstood words in the English language. It is something that many
take for granted yet many have died for. Freedom is that intangible quality
that is native to citizens of this great nation. For centuries America has
been the torch bearer of freedom for the world. On the base of the Statue
of Liberty you will find the words: “Give me your tired, your poor, your
huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming
shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me . . .” The gift of
freedom has been shared all around the world by this great nation. That gift
has been paid for countless times with the blood of soldiers . . . American
soldiers. It has always been the soldier who has paid the greatest cost for
our freedom.
FreedomSong exists for two reasons. One is to honor those who have given so
much that we might be free and to honor their sacrifice by calling America
back to the standards and beliefs that this country was founded upon. The
other is to introduce you to one specific soldier who paid the final cost for
that gift of freedom. However, there is something very special about this
soldier. Not only was he the first one to give his life for you, his sacrifice
has provided life and freedom for people in every nation on earth. He was
there in the cold desperate days with General George Washington at Valley Forge
and he is still with us today. If you would like to learn more about him
